Panama seeks Singaporean investment and logistics models during official visit
Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha are conducting an official visit to Singapore to strengthen bilateral ties and attract investment for Panama’s infrastructure projects.
During the visit, President Mulino toured the Tuas Port, a massive automated container terminal project. He identified the facility as a model for Panama to enhance its own logistics platform, noting its use of autonomous trucks, driverless cranes, and solar energy. The Tuas project aims for a capacity of 65 million TEUs annually upon completion in 2040.
Minister Martínez-Acha met with Singaporean business leaders to promote Panama’s Strategic Plan 2025-2029. Key investment areas include maritime, pharmaceutical, real estate, health, and legal services. Highlighted infrastructure projects include the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal, the expansion of Tocumen International Airport, and various regional road and airport improvements intended to create over 7,000 jobs.
Diplomatic discussions also included Singapore’s adherence to the Panama Canal Neutrality Treaty. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed between SATS and Tocumen International Airport to explore expanding cargo capacity and strengthening trade flows between Asia and the Americas.
