Panama Black Weekend launches with $85 million sales target
The Panama Black Weekend 2026 has commenced, with organizers expecting sales to reach at least $85 million over the three-day event. More than 16 shopping centers and plazas affiliated with the Panamanian Association of Shopping Centers (Apacecom) are participating, offering discounts ranging from 20% to 70% on items such as clothing, footwear, and appliances.
To ensure safety during the high-traffic period, the National Police have deployed approximately 1,000 officers across various commercial centers in Panama City and the interior. This security plan includes foot patrols, vehicular rounds, and constant monitoring at strategic points in 16 participating locations, including Albrook Mall, Westland Mall, and Colón 2000, to deter crime and protect shoppers and merchants.
While the event aims to boost the retail, hotel, and restaurant sectors, some consumers have expressed caution. Shoppers have noted that economic conditions may limit purchasing power and have advised comparing prices to ensure discounts are genuine. Regulatory bodies, including Acodeco, are involved in monitoring prices and advertising during the weekend.
