Panama Canal Advisory Board holds 41st meeting and leadership transition
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has commenced its 41st Advisory Board meeting, which runs through October 28. The assembly aims to analyze global maritime trade trends and various development strategies for the waterway.
A leadership transition occurred during the meeting as Admiral William J. Flanagan concluded his term as president of the Advisory Board. He is succeeded by Danish businessman Tommy Thomsen, who brings over three decades of maritime industry experience and currently leads the Lauritzen Fonden foundation.
The board has also welcomed two new members: Oscar Hasbún Martínez, president of the Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV), and Dr. Jean Paul Rodriguez, a professor at Texas A&M University at Galveston.
Participants conducted site visits to the Cocolí locks, the Integrated Operations Control Center (CICO), and areas designated for upcoming projects, including a gas pipeline and the extension of the logistics corridor. José Ramón Icaza, Minister for Canal Affairs, emphasized that the board's recommendations are vital for ensuring the canal remains competitive and sustainable.
