Panama Canal begins 2026-2027 cruise season with 220+ transits
The Panama Canal has launched its 2026-2027 cruise season, marked by the transit of the Carnival Miracle. The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has scheduled more than 220 transits for the period, highlighting the waterway's role in connecting North American, Caribbean, and Pacific tourism markets.
Industry projections suggest favorable growth for the 2027 fiscal year, driven by a 5% increase in global passenger demand and a growing global fleet. Major operators including Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean Cruises will maintain itineraries through the canal. The season includes 39 neopanamax vessel transits and several debut appearances by ships such as L’Austral and Explora III.
In related maritime travel news, Nicko Cruises has announced a 19-day holiday itinerary starting in Panama City in December 2026. The Vasco da Gama will travel along the Pacific coast, with scheduled stops in Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, including destinations such as Guayaquil, Lima, and Valparaíso.
