Panama Canal closes prequalification window for Energy Corridor pipeline projects

The Panama Canal Authority announced that the document‑submission period for companies interested in the Energy Corridor prequalification closed on Thursday, 23 July 2026. Submitted proposals will now be evaluated against legal, technical and financial criteria outlined in the pre‑qualification documents and three subsequent amendments. After the review, a list of pre‑qualified firms will be published and invited to the next phase of engagement.

The Energy Corridor is a strategic initiative to develop a 76‑kilometre (47‑mile) pipeline capable of transporting propane, butane and ethane between Panama’s Atlantic and Pacific coasts at up to 2.5 million barrels per day, bypassing the canal locks. The project is intended to diversify the canal’s revenue base, strengthen Panama’s role as a global logistics and energy hub, and attract major energy players such as ENEOS, Energy Transfer, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Phillips 66 and others. The pre‑qualification process, launched on 30 January 2026, included a clarification period and three document amendments to ensure transparency and fair competition among qualified bidders.
