Panama Chamber of Commerce calls for education law reform

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap) has called for a comprehensive renewal of the national Education Law. In a statement signed by President Aurelio Barría Pino, the business group emphasized that educational reform should stem from dialogue across various sectors to better prepare students for the demands of the labor market.

Cciap stressed that education must be treated as a state policy and a national priority, remaining consistent regardless of changes in government leadership. The group highlighted the need for responsible investment, quality results, and the maintenance of school facilities to ensure safe and appropriate environments for students and teachers.

Regarding the ongoing investigation by the Public Ministry into the purchase of laptops by the Ministry of Education (Meduca), the Chamber demanded rigor, independence, and transparency. The group noted that all proceedings must respect due process, stating, “Every balboa counts and every decision must be substantiated.”
