Panama City approves $12 million municipal park in Tocumen

The Panama City mayor’s office plans to build a new municipal park on two hectares of land adjacent to Tocumen International Airport. The project is budgeted at US$12 million, funded from municipal sources, and was approved by residents in a public hearing.

The park will include baseball, football, volleyball and basketball fields, extensive playground areas, an amphitheater, walking trails, kiosks and parking. Designs incorporate accessibility, green landscaping and pedestrian pathways. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and be completed by the end of 2028, providing recreational space for an estimated 250,000 local residents.

David Tapia, director of Planning and Urban Development for the mayor’s office, said the initiative aims to address the eastern district’s shortage of public green spaces and to promote community health and cohesion.
