Panama implements retiree benefit adjustments and CSS asset recovery rules
The Panama National Assembly has approved modifications to Law 6 of 1987 to adjust benefits for retirees and pensioners. These changes aim to address the rising cost of living, though some adjustments involve increasing the percentage of discounts for essential services such as water and electricity.
Separately, the Comptroller General of the Republic has approved a new manual for the Social Security Fund (CSS) regarding the management of lost or damaged patrimonial assets. The regulation establishes procedures for public servants to either provide monetary compensation or physical replacement for lost property. If a staff member is found responsible and refuses to comply, the administration will refer the case to competent authorities for formal collection and disciplinary sanctions.
