Panama investigates Aura A shipwreck in Panama Bay
The Panama Maritime Merchant Directorate (DGMM) is investigating the shipwreck of the Panamanian-flagged vessel Aura A. The incident occurred on the night of September 14 in the waters between the islands of Taboga and Taboguilla in Panama Bay.
The vessel had departed from Flamenco Marina for Contadora Island earlier that morning. All 16 passengers and two crew members were rescued alive by the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN), with no reported injuries or fatalities.
Authorities are currently conducting interviews and reviewing documentation to determine the cause of the accident. While no environmental contamination has been confirmed, officials are monitoring the potential for hydrocarbon pollution in the vicinity of the wreck.
