Panama issues weather alerts amid earthquake recovery efforts

Panama's civil protection agency, Sinaproc, has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Soná and Mariato in Veraguas and Tonosí in Los Santos due to risks of heavy rain, sudden river rises, and flooding. A green alert for preventive monitoring has also been extended to Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Colón, Coclé, and parts of the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca.

These weather warnings coincide with ongoing earthquake reconstruction efforts in the Veraguas and Los Santos regions. Authorities have begun rebuilding homes with total or partial damage, emphasizing that new construction must comply with national structural regulations. Technical evaluations are being conducted to determine if families must relocate due to risks of flooding or slope instability.

In response to recent seismic activity, SENAN has conducted over 329 flight hours to support more than 45 communities via an air bridge. Meanwhile, school inspections continue across Herrera, Los Santos, and Coclé.
