Panama Jazz Festival announces 24th edition honoring Jimmy Maxwell

The 24th edition of the Panama Jazz Festival has been announced, scheduled to take place from January 14 to 16, 2027. This upcoming edition will honor the legacy of Panamanian bassist Jimmy Maxwell, a key figure in the development of Tambo Jazz, which blends Afro-Panamanian and Caribbean rhythms with jazz improvisation.

Confirmed international performers include Cuban saxophonist and composer Paquito D’Rivera. In a notable reunion, D’Rivera will perform a gala concert alongside Panamanian Grammy-winning pianist and educator Danilo Pérez, marking their first time sharing a stage in over 30 years. Additionally, the project Bass Extremes, featuring Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten, is among the featured acts.
