Panama launches AI and semiconductor agenda with $105M investment

Panama's government unveiled a National Advanced Technologies Agenda aimed at turning the country into a regional hub for artificial intelligence and semiconductor production. President José Raúl Mulino announced a $105 million funding package that includes the creation of a National Commission for Critical and Emerging Technologies and a dedicated AI sub‑commission, coordinated by the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt).\n\nThe agenda merges a National AI Strategy with a Microelectronics and Semiconductor Strategy, and earmarks 10,000 scholarships under the Talent Up Panama program, delivered in partnership with Google, the Inter‑American Development Bank and the Technological University of Panama. It also aligns Panama with the U.S.-led Pax Silica alliance, which brings together major economies such as Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Germany, the United Kingdom and the European Union to secure AI‑critical supply chains.
