Panama launches Brazilian dwarf coconut cultivation project

An agro-industrial project to cultivate Brazilian dwarf coconut is being established in the Herrera province of Panama. The initiative is led by the Panamanian company Campo Las Cabras with technical, genetic, and commercial support from the Brazilian firm COHIBRA.

The project will begin in the Pesé district with an initial goal of planting 60 hectares using certified genetic material, with plans to expand to 200 hectares in the coming years. The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) has committed to providing technical and institutional support to foster this new economic sector.

Commercial production is expected to begin approximately two years after the establishment of the plantations. The project aims to diversify Panama's productive capacity, generate rural employment, and create opportunities for both domestic consumption and international export.
