Panama launches Café Presidente reintegration program in New York

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino and First Lady Maricel Cohen de Mulino have launched a social reintegration initiative in Manhattan, New York, through a partnership with Arcane Estate Coffee. The program, known as Café Presidente, will provide professional training to the first three former female inmates from Panama, focusing on customer service, teamwork, and operational management.

The initiative is part of the broader Plan Libertad, a social reintegration project supported by the United Nations that aims to serve as a replicable model for other nations. Arcane Estate Coffee, which specializes in Panamanian coffee from Boquete and Volcán, will facilitate the training to connect participants with demanding international markets.

According to the First Lady, the program is part of a larger effort where over 300 women out of a total of 500 inmates are currently participating in various resocialization workshops to gain the tools necessary for future employment.
