Panama leads InterNations 2026 Expat Ranking while Germany falls to near‑last place
InterNations surveyed 7,786 expatriates from 152 countries for its Expat Insider 2026 study. Participants rated up to 53 aspects of life abroad, including work, safety, quality of life and integration, providing a subjective ranking of destination countries.
Panama topped the list for the third consecutive year, earning the highest scores in the work and finance categories and reporting that 87 % of respondents were satisfied with their life abroad. Mexico placed second. Germany slipped to near the bottom of the ranking, just above the last position, indicating challenges for foreigners to find connections and integration.
Ninety percent of all surveyed expatriates said the local population was friendly and that their household income was sufficient for a comfortable lifestyle.
