Panama Maritime Authority monitors Min Jiang Kou after ship fire
The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) is monitoring the Min Jiang Kou, a Marshall Islands-registered Ro-Ro vessel, following a fire incident approximately 600 nautical miles from Panama.
The vessel, designed for transporting vehicles and heavy machinery, is currently without power and has no crew on board. On the night of September 7, a temperature increase was detected in certain deck areas, prompting cooling operations on the hull.
Three tugboats are currently engaged in stabilization efforts. A specialized salvage company has requested to bring the vessel into Panamanian waters to stabilize it before it is transported to a shipyard in Asia. The AMP continues to oversee the safety and salvage operations.
