Panama Metro expansion: Line 3 nears completion as Line 2A planning begins

Panama's metro expansion projects are progressing through different stages of development. Line 3 is currently 81% complete and is expected to be operational within two years, serving approximately 160,000 passengers daily from Arraiján and La Chorrera. The project features significant engineering feats, including a tunnel that reaches 65 meters below sea level and a viaduct connecting to San Bernardino station that reaches a height of 35 meters.

Regarding future expansions, preparations for Line 2A are expected to begin in 2027. The budget for 2027 includes approximately B/. 78.9 million for the study of the bidding terms, the acquisition of eight new train units, and contract liquidation. Line 2A is intended to connect San Miguelito to Paitilla, passing through the Tumba Muerto area and serving various universities and hotel clusters. This line is expected to alleviate congestion at the San Miguelito interchange.
