Panama opens $7.7 million San Lorenzo National Park visitor center

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino officially inaugurated the San Lorenzo National Park Visitor Center in the Colón province. The project, representing an investment of approximately $7.7 million, aims to promote environmental education, scientific research, and tourism by highlighting the region's biodiversity and historical significance.

The site is located near the colonial-era San Lorenzo Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. President Mulino noted that the project had remained unfinished or abandoned through three previous administrations. He emphasized that the completed facility serves as a showcase for the country's cultural wealth and natural resources.

The center is expected to boost tourism in the Caribbean region of Panama, particularly for cruise ship passengers. According to Ministry of Environment statistics, visitor numbers to the park have seen significant growth, with 2026 figures through August already surpassing the total recorded in 2025.
