Panama national team arrives in Japan for Kirin Cup 2026

The Panama men's national football team has arrived in Japan to participate in the Kirin Cup 2026. Following a preparation phase in India, the squad led by coach Thomas Christiansen is based in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Panama is scheduled to face New Zealand in a semifinal match at the Yokohama International Stadium on Thursday, October 1. The winner of this match will advance to the final against the victor of the game between Japan and Ecuador. Christiansen noted that while the team is excited to play in Japan, they expect a difficult challenge against a competitive New Zealand side.

Additionally, player Josué Vergara is traveling from Belgium to join the squad. After being previously sidelined due to muscle discomfort while playing for KAA Gent, medical staff will evaluate his condition to determine if he can participate in upcoming matches, potentially including the game on October 5.
