Panama reports 12.5% growth in agro-exports
Panamanian government agencies are highlighting the growth and strategic importance of the non-traditional agro-export sector during the XXVI National Congress of Non-Traditional Agro-Exporters (GANTRAP).
The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) reported that total Panamanian goods exports reached B/. 913.1 million between January and July 2026, marking a 12.5% increase. Of these exports, 72% belong to the Ordinary Regime and 28% to Special Economic Zones, such as the Colón Free Zone and Panamá Pacífico. MICI is supporting this growth through training programs, including the 'Mujer Exporta' initiative, which has helped 100 female-led companies access international markets for products like pet food, chocolate, and fresh fruit.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) emphasized that non-traditional agro-exports drive innovation, economic diversification, and value addition for local producers. To support the future of the sector, MIDA also organized technical training for zootechnics students in Colón, focusing on livestock management, health, and reproduction to prepare the next generation of agricultural professionals.
