Panama seeks direct maritime link with India via Chennai

Panama is exploring the establishment of a direct shipping connection with India, specifically targeting Chennai's maritime industry to facilitate trade with Latin American markets. During a business roundtable in Chennai, Panama's Ambassador to India, Alonso Correa Miguel, noted that while Indian businesses frequently use conventional routes through the Suez Canal or the Cape of Good Hope, they often overlook Panama's established maritime and logistics infrastructure.

The proposal aims to leverage the Panama Canal, its ports, and the Colón Free Zone as a logistics and distribution hub for Indian companies. Ambassador Miguel emphasized that the first entity to establish this direct connection would have a significant advantage in accessing Latin American trade routes.
