Panama to host Global Bioeconomy Summit in 2028

Panama has been selected to host the Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) in 2028, marking the first time the international event will be held in Latin America and the Caribbean. The announcement was made during the conclusion of the 2026 summit in Dublin, Ireland.

The summit aims to connect regional biodiversity, science, and innovation with global investors, companies, and research centers to promote sustainable development. The initiative is led by Panama's National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt) in coordination with the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy (IACGB), with support from the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Latin American Bioeconomy Network.

Organizers intend for the event to serve as a regional platform for Latin America and the Caribbean, which holds approximately 50% of the world's biodiversity and 23% of the planet's forests. The goal is to transform international attention into concrete projects, alliances, and financing that leverage biological resources for long-term economic and environmental benefits.
