Panama tsunami alert issued for Isla Cañas after earthquake
A tsunami alert has been issued for the southern coast of Panama, specifically threatening Isla Cañas and the southern sector of the Los Santos province, following a significant earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center predicts waves of up to three meters could impact these coastal areas, with water already reaching some homes near Isla Cañas.
Following the main tremor, 86 aftershocks have been recorded, though all have remained lower in magnitude than the initial quake. In response to the seismic activity, the Ministry of Health has convened regional officials to coordinate field interventions. While the National Oncology Institute was temporarily evacuated as a safety precaution, no structural damage to the facility has been reported.
