Mexico Sub‑20 omits Gilberto Mora ahead of CONCACAF U‑20 qualifier

The Mexican under‑20 national team announced its 21‑player roster for the CONCACAF U‑20 Championship, the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA U‑20 World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The most notable exclusion is 17‑year‑old midfielder Gilberto Mora, who featured in the senior World Cup earlier this year. Coach Alex Diego highlighted other key talents such as Flamengo striker Diego Reyes, Tigres midfielder Henrique Simeone and goalkeeper Artemio Olvera.

The tournament will be hosted in Puebla, with group‑stage matches at Estadio Cuauhtémoc and later knockout rounds in Mexico City. It runs from 24 July to 9 August, with four semifinalists earning World Cup berths and the champion securing the sole Olympic slot for the CONCACAF region.

Panama's U‑20 side has also arrived in Mexico, basing its final preparation in Pachuca before moving to Puebla. The team will face Canada on 26 July and Jamaica on 30 July, aiming for one of the four World Cup spots.
