Panama unveils tribute book to folklore master Edgardo De León Madariaga
At the National Fair of Handicrafts, Panama presented the book "Edgardo De León Madariaga: el genio creativo," written by Rolando Domíngo. The volume honors the late folklorist Edgardo De León Madariaga, showcasing a visual catalogue of his original designs, step‑by‑step descriptions of his artisanal processes, historic photographs, original drawings, and testimonies from family, friends and experts.
Culture Minister María Eugenia Herrera highlighted De León Madariaga’s pivotal role in shaping modern Panamanian pollera attire and called the publication a vital historical, artistic and cultural document. Copies of the book were formally delivered to the De León González family and to the minister, underscoring the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting Panama’s cultural heritage for future generations.
