Panamanian footballer Ivis Ubarte murdered in Coclé

Panamanian footballer Ivis Ubarte has been murdered in her residence in the Ciruelito sector of Antón, Coclé province. The 23-year-old midfielder, who played for Inter Panamá CF and was a member of the Panama Women's National Team, was shot three times—twice in the abdomen and once in the left cheek—by hooded individuals who violently entered her home on Tuesday night.

Ubarte was a rising talent in the local league and had recently been called up for Concacaf World Cup qualifying matches. Authorities are investigating the motive, noting that she had previously survived a shooting at a nightclub in Antón on August 8. This incident marks the second reported femicide in the Antón district this year and brings the total homicide count in Coclé province to 11 for the current period.

The murder has caused significant mourning within the Panamanian football community, including the Panamanian Football Federation (FEPAFUT). Local authorities are working to identify the perpetrators amidst ongoing concerns regarding organized crime and gang presence in the region.
