Panamanian judicial official and doctor face trial for medical fraud

A judicial official and a doctor in Chiriquí, Panama, are scheduled to face an oral trial on August 30, 2027, following an indictment for crimes against public faith. The proceedings were ordered by guarantee judge Elvia Pittí.

The case stems from an incident on September 12, 2022, when the doctor allegedly issued a medical incapacity certificate for the judicial official. However, migration records indicate the official was in Colombia during the period covered by the certificate.

The doctor faces charges of ideological falsehood, while the judicial official is accused of using and profiting from false documents. The alleged actions resulted in economic and administrative damages to both the Judicial Branch and the Social Security Fund.
