Panama's Colon Province Floods Displace Dozens and Damage 83 Homes

Heavy rains swept through the Costa Arriba region of Panama's Colon province, flooding the community of Nombre de Dios and nearby villages such as Viento Frío. At least 83 homes were inundated and dozens of families were evacuated to safe shelters. The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) coordinated humanitarian assistance, distributing mattresses, cleaning kits and bottled water, while damage assessments continued.

Sinaproc director Omar Smith warned residents not to cross rivers or streams with elevated water levels after a 26‑year‑old man died in Darién when his vehicle was swept away by a swollen stream. Authorities urged the public to stay away from flood‑prone areas and follow weather advisories.

Efforts to deliver aid were hampered by ongoing rain and difficult access to the affected communities, prompting continued monitoring and support from emergency responders.
