Panama's Commerce Minister credits CONEP for mining impact data
Panamanian Minister of Commerce and Industries, Julio Moltó, has recognized the significant contributions made by the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP) to the Interministerial Commission's analysis regarding the mining site.
Moltó stated that studies provided by CONEP's Economic Analysis Unit served as the foundation for the macroeconomic data, labor statistics, and territorial information included in the Commission's Final Report. Specifically, the economic data provided by CONEP is the source for all macroeconomic figures in the report presented to the President, including calculations on national losses, job losses, and daily fiscal impacts.
The documentation submitted by CONEP president Raúl Joaquín Montenegro Vallarino includes a 174-page study on socioeconomic repercussions of operational closures between 2023 and 2025, an original study on the cessation of operations from October 2024, and a baseline study of the active population in 45 communities across Coclé and Colón.
