Panama's Mitradel seizes Serviestiba accounts to protect workers
The Ministry of Labor and Development (Mitradel) has ordered the seizure of accounts receivable from the company Serviestiba, S. A. This measure aims to protect the labor benefits and acquired rights of 1,386 workers following the company's announcement that it will cease providing services at the Balboa and Cristóbal port terminals this Friday.
Mitradel took this action after the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) reported the cessation of services. While the company stated that worker wages are guaranteed and will be paid, the Ministry is intervening to ensure financial security during the transition. The government is coordinating with port operators to facilitate the hiring of these workers to maintain employment continuity.
