Panamericana highway sees fatal crash in Argentina and major works in Ecuador

In Argentina, a 21-year-old driver caused a fatal collision on the Panamericana highway near Dorrego Avenue. The driver, identified as A. S., tested positive for a blood alcohol level between 1.03 and 1.05 g/l. The impact caused a Honda Civic, driven by 48-year-old Luis Candelario Álvarez, to strike a concrete divider, resulting in his death. The driver's vehicle, a Honda CR-V, caught fire following the crash. Authorities noted the driver had 24 previous speeding infractions.

In Ecuador, major roadwork is scheduled for the Panamericana Norte in Calderón. Starting October 12, 2026, rehabilitation of the three central lanes will last for 20 days. The project involves milling, stabilization, and new asphalt laying. While the highway will remain open to more than 50,000 daily vehicles through temporary counterflow and lane management, the Llano Grande exit toward the south will be completely closed. Drivers are advised to use the José María Becerra U-turn as an alternative route.
