Panamericana Norte roadworks in Quito enter new phase
A new phase of road rehabilitation on Quito’s Panamericana Norte is scheduled to begin on September 26, 2026. The project, which has reached 50% completion, will now focus on a 1.15-kilometer stretch of the central lanes in the south-to-north direction.
The intervention will span from the Carapungo interchange, connecting with Avenida Simón Bolívar, to García Moreno at the entrance to Llano Grande. This work is expected to last approximately 20 days and involves milling old pavement, stabilizing the road structure, and installing new semi-rigid pavement.
Due to the construction, traffic patterns will change for the approximately 50,000 vehicles that use the artery daily. While the north-to-south lanes will remain open, the south-to-north central lanes will be closed in sections. To maintain movement, a contraflow system will be implemented from the La Bota elevated pass to the Llano Grande traffic light. Local and public transport will have priority on the lateral lanes, and drivers should expect diversions affecting access to sectors such as Calderón, Llano Chico, and Llano Grande.
