Panamericana Sur highway closures suspend bus trips to Lima

Bus services from the Arequipa Land Terminal to Lima and Caravelí have been suspended due to landslides, mudflows, and rockfalls on the Panamericana Sur highway. The disruptions are concentrated in the Atico and Ocoña sectors, specifically affecting the stretch between kilometers 764 and 782 near the Onda ravine.

Approximately 48 kilometers of the roadway have been damaged. While some companies continue to sell tickets with restrictions, no buses are being authorized to depart until the route is guaranteed to be safe. Currently, about 40 buses that typically cover the Lima route daily are unable to operate.

Authorities and the Ministry of Transport and Communications have deployed machinery to clear the debris, but local transport officials have noted that the available equipment is insufficient to address the extent of the damage. Travelers are advised to avoid walking along the affected sections due to the ongoing risk of further landslides.
