Panasonic Connect deploys 177 joint kiosks at Narita Airport

Panasonic Connect has delivered 177 joint kiosks to Terminals 1 and 2 of Narita International Airport. Scheduled for full operation starting September 24, these terminals allow travelers to complete both immigration and customs declarations in a single process.

The electronic system is operated through collaboration between the Immigration Services Agency and Japan Customs. The kiosks utilize facial recognition technology and require travelers to place their passports on the device. To ensure security, the system includes fraud detection capabilities, such as identifying if a fingerprint presented does not match the person operating the terminal.

The hardware features a universal design accessible to both able-bodied passengers and wheelchair users, utilizing animations and instructional text to guide users through the process. This deployment is part of a broader government initiative to streamline entry and exit procedures as Japan aims to reach 60 million inbound foreign visitors by 2030. Similar systems have been introduced at Haneda, Kansai, and Fukuoka airports.
