Panasonic Electric Works expands Well-Being business into manufacturing
Panasonic Electric Works (Panasonic EW) has unveiled its strategic expansion into the Well-Being business, targeting the manufacturing sector to address labor shortages and the shift toward human capital management. The company aims to grow this business to 10 billion yen in sales by 2030 through two main pillars: consulting for international WELL certification and “Well engineering” for spatial implementation.
To demonstrate this approach, Panasonic EW showcased its renovated office at the Nara Factory in Yamatokoriyama, Japan. Under the concept “Co-Creation GYM,” the 2,700-square-meter space was redesigned to encourage cross-departmental communication and employee engagement. The design features elements like track-inspired floor lines to promote movement and greenery to reduce fatigue.
Data collected from approximately 13,000 employees suggests that offices with WELL certification show work engagement and subjective Well-Being scores roughly 10 points higher than those without. Panasonic EW intends to use IT and data analytics to quantify the intangible benefits of Well-Being, optimizing environmental factors such as light, air, sound, and temperature to create productive workspaces.
