Panasonic Holdings develops AI solution for elderly care monitoring

Panasonic Holdings Corporation has developed a new “premonition solution” designed to support nursing care staff by using AI and sensor data to detect early signs of changes in the health of elderly residents in care facilities.

The system consists of two primary components: a “health status change analysis AI” and a “report generation AI.” The analysis AI utilizes sensor data—including heart rate, respiration, movement, sleep patterns, and bed occupancy—to compare current data against an individual’s baseline. In performance evaluations involving approximately 2,000 people, the AI achieved a recall rate of 89.4% in detecting health changes.

The report generation AI then converts these findings into easy-to-understand reports featuring text and graphs. These reports highlight specific observation points to facilitate information sharing among various medical and care professionals. The system is designed as a common platform that is not dependent on specific sensor hardware, allowing for integration with existing monitoring systems.

Panasonic Holdings plans to begin field testing in October 2026 in collaboration with the social welfare corporation UI 21. This demonstration will verify how the AI-generated notifications and reports can be utilized by staff for care decisions and status confirmations.
