Panasonic launches LUMIX S 20mm F2. 5 lens and ecosystem firmware updates

Panasonic has announced the release of the LUMIX S 20mm F2. 5, a compact ultra-wide-angle prime lens designed for full-frame L-Mount cameras. The lens features an 11-element optical design, including three aspherical and three extra-low dispersion elements. It is specifically positioned as a portable companion for the LUMIX S9, weighing approximately 142 grams and featuring a dust, splash, and freeze-resistant design.

In conjunction with the new lens, Panasonic is rolling out significant firmware and software updates. The LUMIX S9 receives firmware version 2.1, which introduces 4K 60p/50p and FHD 120p/100p/60p/50p recording in MP4 (Lite) format. The update also expands assignable functions for the lens Fn button, such as aspect ratio, E-Stabilization, and hybrid zoom.

Additional firmware updates are available for the LUMIX S1RII, S1II, and S1IIE models, focusing on improved shutter responsiveness, burst-shooting performance with external flashes, and overall operational stability. Panasonic is also updating its mobile ecosystem, including version 3.1.1 of the LUMIX Lab app and version 1.7.0 of the LUMIX Flow app, to enhance workflow and compatibility with the new recording formats.
