Panasonic to Close Shah Alam Factory, Impacting 400 Workers

Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. will cease all manufacturing at its Shah Alam plant by the end of March 2027 as part of a global restructuring. Television production will stop in September 2026 and Technics‑branded Hi‑Fi audio production will end in February 2027, with Blu‑ray player production shifted to a Panasonic facility in China. The shutdown will affect roughly 400 employees.

The Selangor state government, led by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, announced assistance measures for the displaced workers, including job‑placement support, entrepreneurship training and coordination with the Social Security Organisation and the Selangor Labour Department. Panasonic emphasized that other Malaysian operations, employing about 12,000 staff, will continue and that it remains committed to investing in the country.
