Panasonic to end consumer car navigation production by March 2027

Panasonic Automotive Systems has announced that it will end the production of its consumer car navigation systems and dedicated optional products by March 2027. The decision affects several product lines, including the “Strada” brand car navigation stations, dash cams, rear-view cameras, and certain ETC 2.0 on-board units.

The company cited significant changes in the market environment as the primary reason for this shift. These changes include the widespread adoption of smartphone-based navigation, the advancement of connected vehicle technologies, and the increasing standardization of sophisticated in-vehicle infotainment systems. Additionally, the rise of display audio units has diversified user needs and options.

Panasonic, which has been a leader in the industry since launching consumer car navigation in 1993, stated that it will continue to provide after-sales services. This includes software updates such as map updates, repair and maintenance services, and customer support, ensuring that current and future users of these products can continue to use them reliably under the company’s warranty regulations.
