Panathenaic Stadium proposed for UNESCO World Heritage status

Isidoros Kouvelis, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, has called for the Panathenaic Stadium to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Speaking at a special event in Paris organized by the Permanent Representation of Greece to UNESCO, Kouvelis emphasized that the stadium is a monument of global significance for sports, culture, and history.

Kouvelis stated that the stadium does not belong solely to Greece but to the global history of humanity, serving as the site where ancient Greek tradition connected with the modern international Olympic movement. He argued that its inclusion in the UNESCO list would recognize the idea that sport is culture and that Olympic heritage is a vital part of the world's cultural legacy.
