Panathinaikos appoints Danish coach Jacob Nistreup as head manager

Greek club Panathinaikos announced the appointment of Danish coach Jacob Nistreup as its new head manager. In a press presentation, club president Giannis Alafouzos explained that the board evaluated several candidates and selected Nistreup for his track record, champion experience and ability to develop players. Sporting director Stefanos Kotzolis added that Nistreup embodies a hard‑work ethic, a winning mentality and a dominant playing style that the club wants to adopt.

Nistreup, speaking in an interview with Copenhagen Sundays, said he dislikes the term “project” and wants to be "first, not tenth". He described Panathinaikos as a "sleeping giant" and expressed enthusiasm about competing in Greek stadiums and European matches. The coach also highlighted his partnership with fellow Dane Stefan Mansen, noting they will make joint decisions on future moves.

The hiring reflects Panathinaikos’ ambition to compete for titles and return to European competition, signaling a new era for the historic Greek football club.
