Olympiacos files complaints against Panathinaikos and Dimitris Giannakopoulos
Olympiacos BC has filed dual complaints with the EuroLeague and the Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association (ESAKE) against Panathinaikos BC and its owner, Dimitris Giannakopoulos. The complaints stem from incidents during a match against Baskonia on October 22, 2026, where Olympiacos alleges that Panathinaikos supporters displayed offensive banners and chanted derogatory slogans.
Additionally, Olympiacos is targeting Giannakopoulos for his social media activity on Instagram. The club characterizes his posts as defamatory, abusive, and threatening. Specifically, Olympiacos cites a post regarding referee Vasiliki Tsarouha and a comment directed at Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas, which the club interprets as a threat of physical violence.
Giannakopoulos responded via social media, stating that the complaints concern an Instagram story featuring a chant about Tsarouha. He denied that his posts were intended to defame basketball or target Bartzokas, instead accusing the Olympiacos management of being “uneducated” and questioning their own integrity regarding past legal disputes.
