Panathinaikos Secures 2-1 Win Over Paksi to Lead Conference League Qualification
Greek club Panathinaikos won 2‑1 away at Paksi FC Stadion in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, taking a lead ahead of the return leg at Athens’ OAKA on 30 July. An own‑goal by Vasilios Vas in the 39th minute gave the Greeks the opening, and Antonios Antino doubled the lead six minutes later. Paksi reduced the deficit in the 71st minute through a strike by Bonte, but the visitors held on to claim the victory.
Panathinaikos dominated possession and created many chances, though they missed several opportunities. Coach Jesper Nistrop said the side could have scored more, while midfielder Fakiou Pelistri affirmed his desire to stay with the club and expressed optimism for the upcoming second leg. Preparations for the home match are under way, with stadium works at the OAKA completed and the turf ready for the decisive game.
The result also helped Greece’s UEFA club coefficient, as both Greek sides – Panathinaikos and PAOK – earned points in this round, improving the nation’s ranking for European competitions.
