Panathinaikos faces defensive crisis as Ingason out for season, Calabri sidelined six weeks

Central defender Ingólfur Ingason suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a friendly against Rapid Vienna on 15 July. The injury will keep him out for the entire season, creating a major gap in Panathinaikos' back line.

Right‑back Davide Calabri was also diagnosed with a rupture of the lateral collateral ligament, ruling him out for approximately six weeks. His absence coincides with the start of the club’s summer European qualifiers, meaning he will miss the early Conference League matches.

With only Triantafyllos Tsapras and youngster Scarlaidis available for the right‑back position, the club is reportedly exploring loan or transfer options. Potential replacements mentioned include defenders such as De Freitas, Tomba, Katris, Palmer‑Brown, Gentvai, Lavas and Byntra.
