Panathinaikos looks for new stopper as Tin Gentbaï departs and targets Galatasaray forward Victor Nelson
Greek club Panathinaikos currently relies on defenders Stefan de Freij, Rick van Dongen, Erik Palmer‑Brown, Georgios Katris and Svierring Ingi Ingkason, but injuries to Ingkason and the unsettled form of Palmer‑Brown have left the team short on centre‑backs. The unexpected departure of centre‑back Tin Gentbaï to Al Sambaab frees roughly €1 million in the club’s budget, opening space both on the roster and financially for a new signing.
Reports from Turkish outlets say Panathinaikos is in advanced talks with Galatasaray over the transfer of 27‑year‑old Danish striker Victor Nelson. Nelson’s rights belong to Galatasaray and his market value is estimated at €6 million. He spent the previous season on loan at Verona, making 38 appearances, and has earned 18 caps for Denmark, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 377 career matches. The club hopes the deal can be concluded quickly to bolster its defensive options ahead of the new season.
