Panathinaikos appoints Jacob Nistrup as new head coach

Panathinaikos introduced Danish coach Jacob Nistrup as its new head coach on 21 June 2024 at the club’s training centre in Koropi (G. Kalafatis). The presentation was led by club owner Giannis Alafouzos, who said the board had interviewed several candidates and chose Nistrup for his résumé, and technical director Stefanos Kotsolis, who praised the coach’s work ethic and winning mentality.

Nistrup thanked the supporters, expressed great respect for the club’s history and vowed to build a winning team. He described pressure as “fuel” and highlighted his recent spell at FC Copenhagen, where he won domestic titles and a league‑cup double. He outlined the preseason programme: friendlies against Helmond Sport (1 July) and Ajax (4 July) in the Netherlands, Grasshopper Club Zürich (11 July) and Rapid Wien (15 July) in Austria.

The new coach emphasised the club’s strong facilities, a solid foundation and his ambition to restore Panathinaikos to the top of the Greek league and compete in Europe, promising to work daily with staff and players to achieve those goals.
