Panathinaikos prepares left‑back signing before July 23 season opener
Greek club Panathinaikos remains active in the summer transfer market, focusing on filling the left‑back position before its first official match on July 23 against Paksi. The club has been in talks with Turkish side Samsunspor regarding the possible acquisition of right‑back Rík Van Drogen and midfielder Christianesen, after earlier negotiations stalled. Reports indicate that Samsunspor has become more flexible, allowing the player to discuss terms directly with Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos is also monitoring other targets. Leicester City is reportedly unwilling to loan centre‑back Christensen, preferring a full sale. A bid of €1 million was made for American defender Erik Palmer‑Brown, who declined the move despite a higher salary offer in Turkey. The squad already includes defenders De Freitas, Katri, Ingason and Tumba, and the club aims to add a left‑footed centre‑back as well.
