Panathinaikos FC undergoes major squad and academy restructuring

Panathinaikos FC is undergoing a significant structural and roster overhaul during the summer transfer window. Under the guidance of technical director Stefanos Kotsoulis and the arrival of Jakob Nielsen, the club has spent approximately €26.7 million in transfer fees to acquire 12 new players. Notable expenditures include €5 million for Rick van Drongelen and €4 million for Étienne Capoua.

Simultaneously, the club is working to reduce roster costs by offloading players. The club has already saved over €4.5 million through the departure of seven players, including the sale of Sfideriski to Videc Lodz for €1 million. The club is also actively seeking to move on players who are no longer part of the primary plans to optimize the squad.

On the developmental side, Panathinaikos is investing heavily in its academy. Under the supervision of Takis Fyssas and Thodoris Eleutheriadis, the academy has introduced new coaching and scientific staff, including Iasonas Vasiliadis and Giannis Nenos. The scouting department, led by Giorgos Makris, has expanded its reach to cover all of Greece to identify emerging talent. As part of this commitment to youth, the club has signed six academy players—Spyros Athanasakis, Thanos Dimitrakopoulos, Thanos Doukas, Giorgos Kasimos, Dimitris Kokkinos, and Dimitris Xydias—to their first professional three-year contracts.
