Panathinaikos signs Dutch defender Stefán de Vrij on one‑year deal

Greek Super League club Panathinaikos has completed the signing of Dutch centre‑back Stefán de Vrij. The 31‑year‑old, who has played for Lazio, Inter and earned 79 caps for the Netherlands, agreed to a one‑year contract with an optional second year. He is scheduled to travel to the Netherlands and join the squad at the pre‑season camp in Apollon on 28 June, after a secret meeting in Athens between the player and club officials, including director Giannis Kotsolis and sporting director Leonardo Baltrini. The deal was finalised following negotiations that also attracted interest from rival Olympiacos. De Vrij is expected to provide leadership in defence and mentor younger teammates.
