Panathinaikos to part ways with captain Tasos Bakasetas

Greek club Panathinaikos is preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer. Coach Jakob Nistrup wants a different midfield profile, favouring higher intensity, speed and attacking contribution. Bakasetas, the team captain, holds the highest salary among Greek Super League players at €1.8 million per year, but his playing style does not fit Nistrup’s preferred system.

Sources indicate that Bakasetas’ contract runs until 2027, yet the club is seeking a consensual termination as his role is expected to diminish. The player may be moved to a reduced salary and a secondary position, prompting speculation that he will depart the club in the upcoming transfer window.

The club’s management, represented by Stefanos Kotsolis, is reportedly exploring options for a new forward while handling Bakasetas’ exit with mutual respect.
